Pokeweed in Bramble Plantings
Return to Weeds
Pokeweed (Phytolacca americana) is a broad-leaved perennial weed distinguished by its red stem. Purple-black berries reach over ¼-inch diameter. It is a favorite among birds, which readily spread the seed after eating the berries. Pokeweed can grow to over 10 feet tall.

Management:
- Mechanically remove or cut plants at the seedling stage.
- Older plants require herbicide applications (apply glyphosate to cut stems).
